Lopen Gyurmey Thapchok and Lopen Kunsang Monlam were born in the Mugu district of northwestern Nepal in 1996 AD. They were brought up in the same village until the age 11. Both Lopen Gyurmey Thapchok and Lopen Kusang Monlam were very conscientious children since a very early age of their childhood. In 2007, they enrolled in Khawalung Monastery along with other underprivileged monks, as Varja Master Jigme Dorje Rinpoche took charge of their education and gave them the opportunity to have a basic education and practice Buddhist teachings. After completing their primary buddhist education at Khawalung, both Kunsang Monlam and Gyurmey Thapchok went on to enroll at the Shechen Monastery in 2011 to complete their further studies of Buddhist philosophy and attain a wide array of knowledge about both sutra and tantra from Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Yangsi Rinpoche and Kyabje Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche. They then graduated in 2022 from Shechen monastery and were ordained as the first two Buddhist monks from Khawalung to become Lopens (Buddhist teacher).

Currently, Lopen Kunsang Monlam is working as an executive director at Khawalung Basic School to give his teachings and transmission to the many bright monks studying at Khawalung.

Lopen Gyurmey Thapchok is working as an executive manager and teacher at Khawalung and plans on serving the monastery in the future and continue to spread his knowledge of Buddhist philosophy to the young generation of monks who come to Khawalung from various underdeveloped regions of Nepal.
